We design, build, operate, and sell stratospheric balloon systems, and the data we collect supports a wide range of applications, from real-time wildfire monitoring to urban mapping. About the Role: 

We are seeking a dynamic and visionary Director of Commercial Sales to spearhead our go-to-market strategy, commercialization efforts, and sales operations. As the primary sales leader, you will be responsible for developing and executing sales strategies to promote our aerial imagery and remote sensing products. This role is pivotal in shaping the future of our sales department and expanding our market reach. This person will work hand-in-hand with Urban Sky's CEO to drive all commercial efforts, both strategic and transactional. This person will be a key leader at Urban Sky, responsible for defining business strategy, driving customer engagements, and shaping and delivering several commercial milestones prior to the company’s Series B investment round. This person will be critical in supporting the CEO to develop a broad-encompassing commercial strategy to achieve product-market-fit and exponentially drive customer and shareholder value (we intend to become a billion-dollar+ space-tech company!) 


Key Functions: 

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive sales strategy aligned with the company’s vision and market opportunities. 

  • Lead all aspects of the sales process, from prospecting to closing deals, for our aerial imagery and remote sensing products. 

  • Establish and nurture relationships with key industry players, potential clients, and partners. 

  • Collaborate with the executive team to set sales targets and KPIs, and report on progress and forecasts. 

  • Responsible for developing and delivering several commercial KPIs, including bookings, top-line revenue, in-bound lead generation, and funnel velocity.   

  • Provide insights into market trends, customer needs, and product development opportunities. 

  • Represent Urban Sky at industry events, conferences, and networking gatherings. 

  • Identify, analyze and prioritize strategic partnership, major account, and channel partnership opportunities. Initiate discussions and evangelize Urban Sky’s value proposition with target partners. 


Skills & Experience: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field; MBA preferred. 

  • Proven track record in sales leadership, particularly in the aerospace, geospatial, or related industries. 

  • Strong understanding of Earth Observation technologies, remote sensing products, and their commercial applications. 

  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills. 

  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment. 

  • Strategic thinker with an entrepreneurial mindset and a flair for identifying new business opportunities. 

  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly MS Excel modeling and PowerPoint 

  • Occasional travel and conference attendance (less than 20%)   

  • Experience with CRMs (Hubspot, Pipedrive, Salesforce, etc.)   

  • Technical proficiency and excitement (i.e. a willingness to understand deep technical constraints and effectively communicate a clear, simple value proposition to customers) 



  • Geospatial product/industry experience (i.e. a thorough understanding of various GIS products, customer needs, market trends, etc.)   

  • Early-stage startup experience, directly related to driving product-market-fit 



  • Base Salary $115,000 - $150,000 per year. Expected OTE of ~$195,000 - $230,000 in 2024, growing higher in 2025 as the business scales. 

  • Expected 2024 total compensation value of $241,000 – $283,000+ (which takes into account expected stock options value, medical/vision/dental benefits, and expected target commission incentives). 

    • We are required to post this salary range per Colorado law. Salary will be determined based on your abilities and experience.
